Health Promoting School

On the 26th June 2011 we celebrated St. Joseph’s recognition as a Health Promoting school. Parents , pupils and teachers and staff all joined the ceremony. Ms Margaret Crowley, from the Health Promotion Unit, HSE, Cork presented Sr Brigid with a plaque in recognition of the school’s achievement in getting this award. Mrs. Marie Therese O’Callaghan and Ms. G. Browne were recogised for their efforts in promoting healthy eating, positive behaviour, recycling, being active, drinking milk, vegetable growing and composting. Mrs Marie Therese O’Callaghan co-ordinated the project and thanked parents for supporting the school’s efforts in promoting healthy eating and giving healthy lunches to their children. Without the support of all the parents, teachers and staff it would not be possible to achieve this award, so it was thanks to everyone that we are now recognised as a health promoting school. An important part of the day was fruit and vegetable tasting. The fruit and vegetable were prepared with the help of some parents and they were sponsored by Supervalu. The children really enjoyed this , tasting their favourites and finding some new tastes too!!! Part of our celebrations were aerobic activities . All classes took part in these. This was a real fun activity which everyone enjoyed indoors as the the weather was very bad and we could  not have any out door activities. Check out our school blog
