November in 5th Class 2023

We celebrated Science Week this month in 5th Class and went to the Library for a workshop. On the last Thursday of November we learned coding skills as part of Tech Thursday. Have you seen our ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’ art display? We were so happy to continue with our swimming lessons, bicycle workshops, and really enjoyed shared reading with the Senior Infants!

Science Week Workshop at the Library written by Ciara

On the 17th of November, 5th Class embarked on a short trip to the local library where a SCIENCE workshop was being held. The scientist introduced herself as a pharmaceutical technician, and we pretended to have a day in her life. We learned about the PH scale, the alkaline scale and all about acidity. We used an indicator (it tells you your progress) to change the colour of a liquid. We also learned the antidote to a bee or wasp sting and learned how to use a pipette. It was great fun, and it was really interesting. Nobody was bored which was good and it was complete with laughs aplenty!
