Student Council

Our Student Council

We set up our student council for the first time in St.Joseph’s in September 2019.

At the beginning of the school year, we hold class elections in Second to Sixth classes to elect two pupil representatives from each class. We hold monthly meetings on Wellness Wednesdays with the teachers. We have pupil suggestion boxes in the classrooms and the student council reps bring these suggestions with them to the meetings.

Some of the activities that the student council have been involved in include:

  • Informing classes of upcoming events eg. Wellness Wednesday, Friendship week
  • Reminding classes of ongoing initiatives eg. healthy lunch boxes, Mindful Monday, Veg of the month
  • Helping to sort suggestions and organise activities, particularly for Friendship and Active weeks
  • Santa’s helpers when Santa visits the school
  • Sending Christmas cards from the school
  • Helping out in the classrooms when the new Junior Infants and their parents visit the school
  • Shoebox Appeal

All our student council members proudly wear their student council badge in school each day.
